On 16 May 2026, the Automated Export System (AES) will be linked to the New Computerised Transit System (NCTS) as part of the EU customs modernisation programme. This integration connects export and transit processes, enabling automatic data exchange and faster confirmation of exit.
Key changes
- Confirmation of exit via AES
When an export declaration in AES is followed by a transit declaration in NCTS, the confirmation of exit will now be issued automatically through AES. - Automatic check of “Previous document”
The export MRN entered in the transit declaration is automatically validated against AES.
If the MRN does not match, the transit declaration will be rejected and an IE056 message will be issued. - Use of export MRN
An export MRN can only be used in one transit declaration.
Multiple export MRNs can still be included in one transit declaration (e.g. at house consignment level), but one export MRN cannot be used in multiple transit declarations.
NCTS Phase 6
NCTS Phase 6 also goes live on 16 May 2026, focusing on EU border security controls.
The Netherlands applies an opt-out, meaning the impact for declarants and software providers remains limited.
This update improves data consistency, reduces manual input, and increases control over export and transit processes.
