Digital Dossier (DMS) mandatory as of 16 May 2026

As of 16 May 2026, the Digital Dossier (DMS) system has become mandatory in the Netherlands. All supporting documents for customs declarations must now be submitted exclusively in digital form via the Dutch Customs DMS system.

Paper-based documentation and email submission are no longer accepted. Companies are required to ensure that their systems and processes are fully aligned with this digital requirement.

The introduction of DMS enables a more efficient customs process with faster processing times and reduced manual handling. At the same time, it requires proper system integration and well-organised internal workflows to ensure compliant digital submission.

Businesses involved in import and export are advised to verify that their systems are fully prepared for DMS and that all required documentation is correctly processed within their customs declarations.
