Digital Dossier mandatory as of 16 May 2026

As of 16 May 2026, the Digital Dossier functionality has become mandatory in the Netherlands. Supporting documents requested by Dutch Customs must be submitted digitally through the DMS (Douaneaangifte Management Systeem).

Previously, supporting documentation could often be provided by email. With the introduction of the mandatory Digital Dossier process, documents must now be submitted electronically via DMS.

This change is intended to improve the efficiency and transparency of customs controls by providing a structured and secure method for exchanging documents with Dutch Customs.

Businesses involved in import and export are advised to verify that their systems and internal procedures are prepared for digital document submission through DMS and that all relevant documentation can be provided in accordance with the new requirements.
