EUDR officially postponed: new deadlines set for 2026 and 2027

On 26 November, the European Parliament approved the proposal to postpone the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) by one year. After months of uncertainty, businesses finally have clarity on the upcoming compliance timeline.

The core EUDR obligations will now apply from 30 December 2026 for medium and large companies. Micro and small enterprises will follow from 30 June 2027. Additional simplification measures are expected by April 2026 to ensure that implementation is practical and manageable.

The postponement reflects widespread concerns across affected sectors, particularly as key elements, such as the central IT system, were not ready for use.

Although both Parliament and Council strongly support the new dates, the amendment still needs to be formally adopted and published. Until then, the original deadlines technically remain in force. Companies are therefore advised to continue preparing, while recognising that a full one-year delay is now the likely outcome.
